I'm Not Photogenic—Can I Still Do a Boudoir Photoshoot?

“I’m not photogenic.”

It’s something I hear from women who love the idea of having beautiful photographs but worry they somehow won’t look the way they hope in front of the camera.

Maybe you don’t like having your picture taken. Maybe you never know what to do with your hands. Maybe you’ve seen photographs of yourself and wondered why you look so different from the way you see yourself in the mirror.

None of those things mean you can’t have beautiful boudoir photographs.

Being Photogenic Isn't a Skill You Need to Bring With You

You don’t need modeling experience to have a boudoir photoshoot.

Most women who step in front of my camera aren’t professional models. They don’t arrive knowing exactly how to stand, where to look or what to do with their hands.

You don’t need to practice poses before your session or spend hours studying photographs online.

That’s my job.

Your job is simply to show up.

Posing Makes a Bigger Difference Than You May Realize

Small changes in the way your body is positioned can completely change how a photograph looks.

The angle of your shoulders, the position of your legs, where you place your hands and even the direction you turn your face can make a noticeable difference.

Throughout your session, I’ll guide you through each pose and make adjustments along the way.

You won’t be left standing in front of the camera wondering what you’re supposed to do next.

Lighting and Camera Angles Matter Too

A professional portrait is very different from a quick photograph taken with a phone.

Lighting can create shape, highlight the features you love and completely change the mood of a photograph.

Camera angles matter too.

The distance and position of the camera, the lens being used and the way your body is positioned in relation to it all affect the final image.

So if you’ve decided you’re “not photogenic” based on snapshots you’ve seen of yourself, you may simply never have been photographed in a way that was designed specifically to flatter you.

What If I Don't Know What to Do With My Face?

This might be one of the most overlooked parts of posing.

You can have the perfect outfit and beautiful body positioning, but your expression is what brings the photograph to life.

And no—you don’t have to know how to do that either.

I’ll guide you through expressions just like I guide you through posing. Sometimes that means looking directly at the camera. Other times it might mean looking away, closing your eyes, laughing or simply relaxing your expression.

You don’t need to arrive knowing how to make the perfect face for a photograph.

You Don't Have to Love Everything About Yourself First

Sometimes “I’m not photogenic” really means something else.

Maybe there are parts of yourself you’re self-conscious about. Maybe your body has changed. Maybe you’ve spent years avoiding the camera because you don’t like the way you look in photographs.

You don’t have to suddenly love every part of yourself before booking a photoshoot.

You also don’t have to wait until you lose weight, feel more confident or reach some imaginary version of yourself that you think will photograph better.

Come as you are now.

Give Yourself the Chance to See Something Different

If you’ve spent years believing you aren’t photogenic, seeing yourself in professionally created portraits can be surprising.

You may notice your eyes first. Your smile. The shape of your body. An expression you’ve never seen captured before.

Sometimes it simply takes seeing yourself from a different perspective.

You don’t need to know how to pose.

You don’t need modeling experience.

And you definitely don’t need to be “photogenic” before you walk through the door.

Give me the opportunity to show you.
